LITTLE BLACK BOOK OF RUNESCAPE CHEATING
Continued in the Tradition of Evil Cowgod by PaulT

RS2 Launch

This was our first view of what Runescape2 was going to look like. At first the community did not understand how different the gameplay of Runescape 2 was from Runescape. T Runescape 2 was a whole new world, and many great Runescape players and cheaters didn’t bother to explore it and get to know it. Subsequently, many new players joined Runescape2, and the Runescape cheating community. Jagex allowed other sites to use the client, meaning you could play Runescape from miniclip.com, or other crappy gaming sites. Runescape 2 grew and grew, but the rate of players who switched over from Classic was not large.

Jagex Lies

“It is now 100% certain that we WILL keep RS1 running past the RS2 launch. We understand that some people don’t like us changing things, so RS1 will be kept for those people, and we’ll try to resist updating/changing it! RS2 will meanwhile continue to be updated on a regular basis for the people who do like updates.”
If doing they’re best to avoid updating/changing Runescape, then why would they shut it down?
“RS-Classic is no longer open to the public.”

It’s Dead!

Runescape is dead. Gone. Jagex lost to the cheaters; and they were sore losers. If Jagex had done something more reasonable with Runescape , anything but what they did do, than maybe the cheaters would have had some reason not to destroy Runescape2 in the same way they destroyed Runescape. But Jagex did the worst thing they could do; they killed Runescape. They said “We can’t fucking deal with the cheaters anymore” and they shut the game down for free players, and eventually even for playing members who were not already “Active” on runescape classic, meaning that only a few hundred players are able to log on to Runescape. I don’t understand why somebody smart enough to design a game as complex as Runescape wouldn’t do something as simple as release the Runescape Classic source code, and server code. It would let thousands of cheaters do what they have always wanted to do…To have a cheat mode for Runescape. A sandbox. But Jagex obviously has other plans; they are going to kill off the game that made them the gigantic and powerful company they are today.

Aryan

Aryan is a powerful, simple cheat. It took the community by storm with it’s simple scripting, high speed, ability to have multiple characters autoing, and it’s constant updating. Unfortunately, it is easily detectable. Aryan was created by Regex and supported by him and other Java programmers updating and improving it. The aryan scripting community was not as large or as good as the SCAR scripting community, but there were enough good scripts to make Aryan a great cheat.
It was a great, free, powerful cheating program that worked well. Cheaters hadn’t seen such a thing for a long time. However, it was not the best. It was only useful for moneymaking in the longterm because of the detectability issues, there were downtimes and a lack of support, the scripting community didn’t embrace it as well as they could have, but all of these are merely superficial faults when you consider how well it did what it was supposed to.

You can’t compare Aryan to SCAR or Autorune. It’s a cheat that lets you make money fast with no effort, and will probably get the character you use banned. But how hard is it to transfer items to another character? Not hard. In the first few days with aryan single players were able to mine hundreds of thousands of rune essence, coal, and other trade goods. Jagex could easily detect them, but much faster than they could ban players, the players could transfer, create a new account, and keep on cheating..
Jagex responded to Aryan:
We have just banned over 15000 accounts from the main RuneScape game for breaking rule 7, and attempting to use software to play the game automatically for them.
We can detect this type of cheating VERY easily. Suprisingly some people seem to think they can get away with this, but we’re making absolutely sure you can’t.
As well as having new systems to detect people cheating in this way, we are also using a new system to go through and ban other accounts used by these cheats, so they can’t just cheat on a ‘throwaway’ account they don’t care about, and expect their other accounts to be unaffected.
We will not let cheats spoil our game for everyone else. It’s just not fair on our millions of legitimate players to let a selfish few try and spoil the game for everyone else.

It sounds good, but in reality, Jagex didn’t do much to halt Aryans progress. Some Aryan characters survived much longer than anyone might have expected.
You can easily prevent all your characters from being banned at once by using a proxy or fixing the UID (user id number) used by the Runescape client. Jagex is lying.

Winterlove Server

Winterlove did something most Runescape cheaters dream about: creating his own private server. Unfortunately, he didn’t finish his server, and the result is the skeleton of a Runescape server. However, it’s very cleverly made and easy to understand, so one might think that because it was open sourced that somebody might have picked it up and developed it untill it was a real Runescape server, but it turns out to be extremely hard to recreate an entire game ground up.
After winterlove stopped developing and open sourced, several people picked it up and added things, like gay sex, equipable items, teleporting, etc,
Untill somebody comes along and manages to do something truly useful, even if it isn’t recreating a real server, like DM style pking, minigames, skills, the server will remain a ghost of what it could be; a small yet brilliantly created sandbox.

It’s worth mention who don’t cheat at Runescape tried out the server, just for shits and giggles. Probably because it didn’t break any obvious rules. I mean…other than copyright restrictions….Obviously people didn’t give a fuck about breaking the rules, just about having their account ban.
Winterlove was also able to remove fog of war on his private server. There’s so much potential here for doing something, but what? and how?

SBot 3

RichyT is a smart guy. He taught the cheating community many things, helped nurture noobs into dedicated scripters, cheaters, and hackers, and even created his own bot, Sbot3. However, his bot cost a large amount of Runescape money, or alot of real money. A small group of cheaters used, and maybe even still use, his bot to great effect, and apparantly he provided excellent customer service.

Custom Clients

Scarscape was a modified Runescape Client designed to use certain scar scripts. It’s features included the abliity to move your character with the arrow keys, a locked map, locked colors, etc. which make autoing easier. I never used it, but some people found it very useful. Scarscape was created by Sythe, of Sythe.org. Sythe.org is not exactly…clean from scammers, and though it’s a large cheating site, it’s not the best. Currently Scarscape is outdated, and moparscape is all the rage. A hacked client used in combination with scar is an effective way to auto. Moparscape is available at http://www.moparisthebest.com/. By far the best feature of moparscape is that all the MIDI music from Doom have been included. Other features are: * full midi player * Running in custom frame, you can now use SCAR without a webbrowser * News Page * SCAR-able and undetectable(er) * fast world switching inside client * only enter username and password once per client * toggleable zoom and full camera movement * toggleable map-locking * chat filter removed * colors stay the same, no random rotation * awesome new background 😀 * fixed UID, removed error reporting * now with toggleable HP over heads * now with a pking minimap
I’ve released several clients, but with no auto updating system they are only useful as code samples. “Zoomscape” was my first attempt and had full camera controls and zooming. “Hell” my next client, showed you where and how to edit the graphics engine. Finally, “Xemos” was a client I made for a large Runescape website, it had a customized skin, allowed fast world changing, and generally kicked ass; they decided it kicked too much ass and they didn’t want it, so I never built an autoupdater.

SCAR The Undead Cheat

SCAR is alive and well today. It works in Runescape Classic and Runescape 2, has hundreds if not thousands of great, mostly free scripts, and will probably never die. It has been overshadowed by bigger and better cheats, but it always comes back Like a Zombie. SCAR was supported throughout the lifetime of Kaitnieks.com by great scripters such as Stupid, Squigg, Odie, and others, and the updates of Kaitnieks.

Master of Illusions

After I learned Java, I cut my programming teeth hacking the Runescape client, and discovered how simple the Runescape Client really was. What was stopping us from creating another great Autorune style cheat? The Runescape Clients code is simple, yet extremely hard to understand due to encryption. Moreover, they update the client on a weekly basis, completely scrambling all the code in a new way. Unless you have an autoupdater to go with your cheat or a dedicated updating crew, you’re screwed.
I ended up hacking Runescape for fun, not profit. I decided to concentrate on doing what I wanted. And I wanted to hack the Runescape graphics engine.

The Camera

One of the first things I discovered was that you can move the Runescape camera anywhere in the loading zone; though fog of war limits you.

You can clearly see how fog of war limits the use of zooming the camera around. It’s fun, but I quickly moved on to new things.

Height/Width

Height and width are some of the easier things to edit.

Brightness and Enhancement

Jagex could be doing so much more than they could. Their graphics engine could be used to create day/night effects, weather effects, and much more. It’s too bad they sacrifice innovation for moneymaking, creating new members items and quests rather than improving their basic graphics. I tried to do a few things with the graphics – Edited by arrows system; but without the tools available to Jagex, I’m crippled. I’m editing Runescape in textpad, whereas they have full developer tools.

Warping

Sometimes you get that urge to just fuck shit up.

Glitches

There are always bugs in Runescape. Most are useless without a way to explot them.

Lag

I got my automining charcter banned for trying to dupe items in my bank with server/client lag. It almost worked, but…it didnt. I couldn’t find the variable in the client for the “Swap” “Insert” buttons, which would be necessary for the dupe. In the second picture, it thinks the pickaxe is coins, but it wouldn’t let me withdraw. In the first picture, I’ve duped some saphires, but they were just a product of lag and dissapeared. My idea was to dupe the item with lag, then rearrange the items in a certain way with the insert mode…I had it all figured out but I never found the right variable.

Wilderness outside of Wilderness

If you eat food right as you die in the wilderness, the game thinks your in the wilderness after you’ve died. You can also just change a variable in the client for the same effect. It doesn’t matter, either way, the server knows it’s bullshit, you can’t attack players who aren’t in the Wilderness.

Kaitnieks.com closes

Kaitnieks.com was the best Runescape Cheating community we ever had. Scripting and bot developement were done constantly by many active members. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
Goodbye, Kaitnieks. You have given us more than we know what to do with. Thanks for everything.
His message to the community at Kaitnieks.com: My current life situation doesn’t allow me to lead a community anymore so I won’t return. Thanks to everyone who supported me.
And later…
Good news everyone, I’m a father. I’m rather happy lately and I’m enjoying my life. I hope you all have good time 🙂
You can still see this^ goodbye message, at Kaitnieks.com, at time of writing.

Kaitnieks taught us how to script, gave us an example of how to make cheats, and taught us how to be an organized, powerful, and most importantly friendly and mature cheating community. Though we may never be as centralized as we were, we can still cheat.

Thanks to MITB for getting the DB for the book.
Pictures were never saved with the DB so they’re probably gone for ever.
